a good time is had by everyone

Meet the Artist, July 19, 2007 during Slainte Thursday.   Elizabeth Palmer-Spilker was our featured artist.  Elizabeth is a Quilt artist from the Columbus Area.   You may imagine that she has a fine arts background.   Actually, she majored in Business Finance as an undergraduate and Education-Human Resource Development as a graduate Student.  Please read the rest of Elizabeth's bio and see some of her work  on our site at  http://netswhim.com/id30.html  or click the "our artist" tab.

We had a wonderful time with Elizabeth and discovered she has a very nice singing voice.   Our music was provided by Harmony, a wonderful guitar & viola duet, who are so talented they could play anything we wanted to sing or hear.

Elizabeth Palmer-Spilker and the Off Our Blocks, art quilting group are currently exhibiting in Logan, Ohio through October.

Meet the Artist August 16, 2007.  Rocco Pisto was our featured artist on Thursday August 16, 2007.   Rocco Pisto has been painting for over 35 years, working mainly in abstract watercolor media.  With a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University, as well as some Masters work along the way.  a passion for the process of painting has always been a part of Rocco’s life.  Such abstract expressionist icons as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning have inspired Rocco;  but his greatest influence was his long time mentor and confidante Kingsley Calkins.  King was the head of the art department at Eastern Michigan University from 1960-1979, and his lyrical and whimsical work had a strong effect on Rocco.  To read the rest of Rocky's bio please click on "our artist" tab.
We also learned many interesting things about Rocky while he was here painting for us some of them you will have to chat with me about and maybe I can share...some of the more notably are he is a Middle School Tennis coach,  recently received a volunteer-ism award from another agency he is involved with and is an "I.T" sales person by day.
Below you can see paintings from Rocky's personal collection as well as some we have on display here at Net's Whim.

Meet the Artist September 20, 2007, brought us Rosa JimenezRosa is originally from the Dominican Republic but has been a resident of central Ohio for 20 years.  Her work reflects her love of the islands.  Rosa brought in some of her wonderful water color paintings to share.  After the Rain is one of my favorite, it has wonderful blues and bright umbrellas are featured in it.

We still have a few of Rosa's pieces hanging in my shop and next door.  She took some of her work with her as she was a featured artist at the Columbus Museum of Art's Adult program series, in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month,  several artists from the Latino community discussed a range of topics that affect their art-making. From where they source inspiration to how they develop resources and supplies the artists explored issues that are unique to their community as well as universal concerns.   Bravo to Rosa!

We had music by David Kaplan on the steel drum and non-alcoholic Moijtos were served, all keeping within our island theme as we celebrate Rosa Jimenez and her work.

check back for pictures soon.

Meet The Artist October 18, 2007!  It turned out to be a beautiful evening....after much concern over rain storms we had a warm, bright October evening.  Linda Rose was on hand with some of her paintings and her very fun gourd art.

Linda attended Ohio State University in Fine Arts and Otterbein College in Business Communications.  She is a member of Society of Decorative Painters; Heart of Ohio Tole Painting Society and Buckeye Art Therapy Association.  Linda says,  "For me painting has become somewhat of an obsession.  As I paint and study the composition with darks and lights and various shapes,  the painting takes on meaning and purpose for me, from this meaning comes the motivation to create again. "   To read the rest of Linda's biography please go to the "our artist" page on this web site.

We had music provided by Harmony and we had hot cider and other wonderful fall treats to eat!  Granted, with as warm as it was we could have had cold cider!

Linda brought some amazing gourds with her.   The fun ones were the Halloween and pumpkins gourds...we also had a few Snowmen that were very wonderful.  Ahhhh yes, the season is almost upon us.   I carry some of Linda's more decorative bowls and pumpkins in my space.   If you missed the show feel free to stop in and look around.

November 15, 2007's Meet the Artist event featured Elizabeth Willford.  Even with Rain, sleet,  and snow we had a wonderful evening and a fantastic turn out.  Music was provided by Chris King from Archibald, Ohio.

Elizabeth's work was very well received.  I heard many people during the evening comment on the eyes in each of her animals.  It was also an incredibly educational evening as Elizabeth is able to give  very detailed information about each exotic animal and their behaviors.

"I am amazed each time I look into a creature's eyes - the beauty, the balance and complexity of creation,"   Elizabeth Willford.

Elizabeth's bio is featured on my site and some of her pieces are still here in my shop if you would like to stop in and see them I would be delighted to show them to you.
